We are going to consider both reflecting & taking action. The reason we are talking about this, is I notice I have some coaching clients who are really good at reflecting & looking back at different things that they have done – either looking back at things they have done quite recently or at things they have done further in the past. They are really good at analysing what worked & what didn’t work & can reflect really well on different events. They are also really good at putting that reflection into action. Based on things they are reflecting on, what worked well? what could be done differently? & what to put into action?
While some of my coaching clients are really good at putting things into action, there are others who get stuck in the reflection mode, they want to keep on looking back & doing the analysis or thinking more about what worked well & what could be done differently. Sometimes we have different things that are holding us back from putting things into action & we want to recognise what some of those things are.
I have other coaching clients who are overly focused on the action, it’s all about doing – do, do, do, go, go, go. Sometimes when we’re so busy doing things, we don’t have the time to reflect or we don’t take the time to reflect. What we want to do is to do both – reflect on our experiences & tweak on actions based on what we are learning.
When taking action you can focus on the little things that you can change. If taking a big jump into action feels overwhelming for you, break it down into smaller steps so that you are focusing on tweaking some of your current situations.
When you are reflecting consider:
- What worked well for you? What are some of the things that I expected to go well that went well? What are some of the things that I didn’t expect to go well that went well?
- What are some things you could have done differently? What are some of the expected & unexpected things that didn’t go well
Then put things into action:
- Based on your reflection, what is one thing you want to put into action? What is one thing that you could change? What is one thing that you want to put in place, a habit that you are already doing, something that you want to tweak so that you’re happy with the results you are getting.
I would invite you to reflect over the past week, month or year & put something into action based on your reflection. If there are some things that are holding you back from putting things into action, there is where coaching can support you. Get in touch for a free introductory call.
